When we bought this seven and a half-acre property, we had hoped to fence most of it as pasture for the horses. Unfortunately, the funds never became available, so the ‘back forty’ has been allowed to run wild. We keep some trails mowed back there and wage war with the Russian Olives to keep it from becoming completely overgrown, and it has become a nice little wildlife area.
We often see deer back there as well as squirrels, possums, raccoons and the occasional skunk.
This Summer a family of Wild Turkeys has taken up residence. They are usually quite shy and hard to photograph, but lately, they have taken to foraging in one of our pastures, and I was able to get close enough to snap a few photos.
