Beautiful Road

Autumn Road

The weather has turned wet and gloomy and I have not been inspired to take photos, so I dug back through my archives for something bright and colorful.

Hard to believe our road looked like this just a couple of months ago.

After a stretch of bitterly cold days our schizophrenic weather has turned unseasonably warm, which would be a welcome change, except that it has brought rain – lots of it. Now we are dealing with icy slush and since the ground is hard frozen, there is nowhere for the water to go.

Our steeply sloping driveway has turned into a luge run, and if I am able to get the car down it without ending up in the Park across the road, it is doubtful I will be able to get it back up.  The rain is supposed to continue through tomorrow, and then we will be plunged back into the deep freeze.  I am grateful we are retired, so at least we have the option of hunkering down at home until road conditions improve.

  1. Your blog doesn’t say where you are located…

    • We live in Michigan, so Spring will come later to us than to you in Virginia, But as you say, the days are getting longer, so we hold out hope that Spring will come eventually!

  2. We’re in the same boat with wet weather, sodden ground, and driveway gravel washing away. My husband and I are also retired too I can relate to your statement about being able to hunker down. At last, though, the days are getting longer and there are subtle changes in the landscape to indicate that spring is at least thinking about making her way here.

  3. That is indeed a beautiful road. I empathise with your feelings regarding the wet and gloomy weather. However, the glimpses of brightness will seem all the more rewarding when they arrive 🙂

    • One thing about Michigan weather is it never stays the same for long. Today has been a mix of wind, snow, and an occasional glimpse of sunshine, which is always welcome, however fleeting!
