October Sky

October Sky

Almost didn’t take the camera with me on my walk on Friday.  Most of the leaves were gone, and there was little color to catch the eye, but I thought the morning sky was quite striking.  It doesn’t show up quite as well in a photo as it did to the naked eye, but you get a hint of how beautiful it was.

On the way back to the car I noticed this moss growing up through one of the concrete barriers that line the parking area in the Park.  How very brave and persistent Nature can be!  If Mankind were to suddenly disappear from the earth, how quickly all our works would be overgrown with moss and grass and trees.

Recently I saw a documentary about Chernobyl.  A film crew was allowed in to record the changes that have occurred there since the area was abandoned.  The buildings, of course have fallen into disrepair, and in spite of the contamination wildlife is flourishing.  It will not be long before all traces of Man will be gone.  Humbling thought!

  1. Beautiful blues in the main image. Yes – it’s wonderful that Nature can heal itself amidst the devastation that humans create.
