Opening Day

On Opening Day, the Metamora Hunt holds a Blessing of the Hounds ceremony.  A tradition that goes back more than a hundred years.  It is always an exciting and colorful event and I love to attend, camera in hand.

This year the weather surprised us with sunshine and warming temperatures and it was very well attended, both by spectators and riders.

A part of me would love to participate in this sport, but I am just too big a chicken.  I really can’t see myself galloping my horse full tilt across open country and flying over jumps (even low ones).  I prefer my horse to keep all four feet on the ground as much as possible.

I learned a few years ago after an involuntary dismount over my horse’s head that I just don’t bounce as well as I did when I was younger and injuries take a lot longer to heal.

I was feeling the effects of that incident for about a year!
